Pierfrancesco Favino (Italian pronunciation:[ˌpjɛrfranˈtʃeskofaˈviːno]; born 24 August 1969) is an Italian actor and film producer.He is the recipient of numerous accolades, including threeDavid di Donatello, fiveNastri d'argento, twoGlobi d'oro, threeCiak d'oro and aVolpi Cup.
Favino began his acting career on stage before transitioning to television and film in the 1990s. His breakthrough role came with the critically acclaimed filmEl Alamein: The Line of Fire, which earned him widespread praise in Italy. He further solidified his reputation with standout performances in films such asRomanzo Criminale (2005),The Unknown Woman (2006), the nationally acclaimedSuburra (2015),The Traitor (2019), where he portrayed mafia bossTommaso Buscetta,Padrenostro (2020), which earned him theVolpi Cup for Best Actor at the77th Venice International Film Festival,Comandante (2023) andNaples to New York (2024).
Favino's American credits includesNight at the Museum (2006),The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (2008),Angels & Demons (2009),World War Z (2013) andRush (2013).
Favino was born in Rome, Italy, toApulian parents fromCandela, acomune in theprovince of Foggia.[1] He has appeared in more than 40 European films and television series since the early 1990s, including Paolo Poeti'sAmico mio,Gabriele Muccino'sThe Last Kiss,Gianni Amelio'sThe Keys to the House,Giuseppe Tornatore'sThe Unknown Woman andFerzan Özpetek'sSaturn in Opposition. In 1999 he starred in theHBO filmExcellent Cadavers, an adaptation ofAlexander Stille'snovel of the same name. In 2006 he received theDavid di Donatello award – the Italian equivalent of the Oscar – for his role in the crime filmRomanzo Criminale, directed byMichele Placido.
In 2006 he portrayedChristopher Columbus in20th Century Fox'sNight at the Museum. In 2008 he played General Glozelle, the leader ofMiraz's Telmarine troops inThe Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian.[2] He has worked with American directorRon Howard twice: in the 2009 filmAngels & Demons, the adaptation of thenovel of the same name byDan Brown, in which he played the role of Inspector Ernesto Olivetti,[3] and in the 2013 filmRush, in which he played the role ofFormula One racing car driverClay Regazzoni.[4]

Favino has been in a relationship with Italian actressAnna Ferzetti since 2003. The couple has two daughters together, one born in 2006 and the other born in 2012.[8]
