Pidhorodne (Ukrainian:Підгородне,IPA:[pidɦoˈrɔdne]) is acity inDnipro Raion,Dnipropetrovsk Oblast,Ukraine. It hosts the administration ofPidhorodne urban hromada, one of thehromadas of Ukraine.[1] Population:19,138 (2022 estimate).[2] In 2001, the population was 17,763.
The populated place is known since 1600 as a "wintering place" (zymivnyk) of Cossacks fromSamar and carried a name Bohorodytski Khutory (hamlets of Theotokos).
Soon after theliquidation of the Zaporozhian Sich, in 1778 those hamlets were united into a "state military sloboda" of Pidhorodne being located near the newly establishedYekaterinoslav (before being moved to the right bank ofDnieper).
On 12 October 2024, the National Commission of the State Language added Pidhorodne to the list of populated places that should be renamed as part of derussification. To comply with the norms of the Ukrainian language, the city is recommended to be renamed to Pidhorodnie.[3]
