Philocrates (Greek: Φιλοκράτης;floruit: 340s BC) was anancientGreek politician from theAtheniandemeHagnous[1] who first negotiated thePeace of Philocrates withPhilip II ofMacedonia after Philip devastated the city ofOlynthos in 348 BC.[2][3] The unpopularity of the treaty resulted in Philocrates being prosecuted in 343 BC byHyperides for corruption (i.e. accepting bribes and favors from Philip II).[3] Philocrates ultimately fled intoexile and was condemned to death during his absence.[3]
