Peyton Jacob III is anAmericanchemist andpharmacologist who has studiednicotine,methamphetamine,hallucinogens,entactogens, and otherpsychoactive drugs.^[1][2] He is a researcher at theUniversity of California, San Francisco (UCSF).^[1][2] Jacob extensively collaborated with and was close friends withAlexander Shulgin.^[3][2] Among many other contributions, they developed theShulgin Rating Scale together^[4] andmethylone was firstsynthesized and described by the pair in the mid-1990s.^[5][6][7]
