Pevarini (misspelledpeverini in one notable source[1]) is a traditional peppercookie ofVenice, Italy.[2] It is traditionally made withmolasses,lard,white pepper, andflour.[2][3] Modern recipes forpevarini often usebutter as a substitute for lard.[2][4] Spices such ascinnamon,nutmeg, andcloves are common additions to the cookie.[2][4]

Etymology

Pevarini take their name frompevare, which means 'pepper' in the Venetian dialect.[4]
