Peter Aguon Gumataotao[1] (born 1958)[2] is the current director of theDaniel K. Inouye Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies (DKI APCSS) and a retiredrear admiral (upper half) of theUnited States Navy. As a rear admiral (lower half), he was the commander ofCarrier Strike Group Eleven which consists ofUSS Nimitz (CVN-68), aircraft ofCarrier Air Wing Eleven, and surface ships and submarines ofDestroyer Squadron 23. In 2012 he was nominated for promotion to rear admiral (upper half).[3]
Gumataotao enlisted in the Navy in 1976 and was selected to attend theNaval Academy Preparatory School inNewport, Rhode Island, before going on to attend theUnited States Naval Academy inAnnapolis, Maryland. He graduated in 1981 and later earned an M.A. in strategic studies from theNaval War College in 1994.
