Peter Bankes (born 1982) is an English professionalfootballreferee who officiates primarily in thePremier League.[1][2][3] His county FA is theLiverpool Football Association.[4]

Bankes start refereeing in 1996 at the age of 14. In 2014, he was appointed to the EFL's refereeing list.[5]
Bankes was moved intoSelect Group 1 ahead of the 2019–20 campaign after joining Select Group 2 three seasons prior.[7] On 31 August 2019, Bankes refereed his first Premier League game betweenLeicester City andAFC Bournemouth and issued a total of fouryellow cards throughout the game.[8] On 22 February 2020, Bankes showed his first Premier Leaguered card toNewcastle United playerValentino Lazaro after he fouledCrystal Palace forwardWilfried Zaha, who was through on goal.[9]
In 2021, he was promoted to theFIFA refereeing list.[10][11] However, in 2023, Bankes only appears on the list as a Video Match Official.[12]
