Peter A. Clayton is a Britisharchaeologist andnumismatist, and the former managing editor ofBritish Museum Publications.^[1] He was also president of the British Association of Numismatic Societies (BANS) from 1987 to 1995 .^[2]

Clayton has written extensively on theancient world andancient Egypt in particular and has produced a number of books for children.

Clayton was a member of the British government'sTreasure Valuation Committee until 2014.
