Perkinsidae is a family ofalveolates in the phylumPerkinsozoa, a sister group to thedinoflagellates.
It includesPerkinsus species, which areparasiticprotozoans, some of which cause disease and mass mortality in wild and farmedmolluscs such asoysters.
Perkinsidae possess plastids which do not contain DNA.[3]
