Pengzhou (Chinese:彭州;pinyin:Péngzhōu), formerlyPeng County orPengxian, is acounty-level city ofSichuan Province,Southwest China. It is under the administration of theprefecture-level city ofChengdu. There is an expressway that connects Pengzhou to Chengdu. It is bordered by theprefecture-level divisions ofDeyang to the northeast and theNgawa Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture to the north.
It has an area of 1,420 km2 (550 sq mi) and At the end of 2024 and the beginning of 2025, the resident population will be 780,100, the urbanization rate will be 56.77%, the total number of registered households will be 595,400, the registered population will be 787,900, the urban population will be 279,000, and the rural population will be 508,900. Pengzhou is one of the three national bases ofpeony plantation and one of the five national bases of vegetable plantation and merchandise. Pengzhou's industry varies from pharmaceutical to petrochemical. The oil refinery attracts a total investment of 38 billion yuan, considered to be the biggest single investment ofSichuan Province since 1949.[2] Like other regions around the area, Pengzhou was affected by the2008 Sichuan earthquake.
The Pengzhou area is believed to have been inhabited since theWestern Zhou period. Empress dowagerWu Zetian first set up Pengzhou in 686 AD (Tang dynasty). In 1337 AD,Hongwu Emperor (Ming dynasty) reduced Pengzhou to Pengxian, or Peng County (彭县;Péngxiàn). Peng County later became Pengzhou City in 1993.[3]
As of late, Pengzhou is still occasionally referred to as Pengxian, or Peng County, even in official publications.[4]

The city has amonsoon influencedhumid subtropical climate, with most of the rainfall occurring in the warm, humid summer. Overall, the climate is mild, but shows traits of all four seasons.
