Pelochelys is agenus of very large softshell turtles in thefamilyTrionychidae. They are found frompeninsular India northeast to southernChina, and south toSoutheast Asia andNew Guinea. These turtles are also known asgiant softshell turtles.
The species in this genus, while still being freshwater turtles as with allTrionychidae, are unique for having significantsalt tolerance and regularly entering near-coastalmarine habitats.[3]
