Pelago is acomune (municipality) in theMetropolitan City of Florence in theItalian regionTuscany, located about 20 kilometres (12 mi) east ofFlorence. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 7,396 and an area of 54.8 square kilometres (21.2 sq mi).[3]

The municipality of Pelago contains thefrazioni (subdivisions, mainly villages and hamlets) Borselli, Carbonile, Consuma, Diacceto, Fontisterni, Magnale, Palaie, Paterno, Raggioli, San Francesco, and Stentatoio.

Lorenzo Ghiberti was born in Pelago in 1378.

Pelago borders the following municipalities:Montemignaio,Pontassieve,Pratovecchio,Reggello,Rignano sull'Arno,Rufina.
