Pedro Manuel de Arandía Santisteban (1699 inCeuta – 1759 inManila) was a Spanishknight and colonial official. He became thegovernor-general of thePhilippines appointed from July 1754 to May 31, 1759.[1]
Arandía was a native ofCeuta with lineage from the families ofBiscay. He was a member of theOrder of Calatrava and became thegentleman of the bedchamber toCharles III of Spain (V of Sicily). In 1754, he arrived in Manila as the new governor-general replacing the1st Marquis of Brindisi.[1]
During his governorship, he reformed the army and expelled infidel Chinese and built the Alcaicería (market) of San Fernando inManila.[1] He died in office and was replaced by theBishop of CebúMiguel Lino de Ezpeleta in 1759.[2]
