Pedro Cachin (pronounced[ˈpeðɾokaˈtʃin]; born 12 April 1995), also known asPedro Cachín, is an Argentine former professionaltennis player.[1] Cachin had a career-highATP singles ranking of world No. 48, achieved on 7 August 2023 and a doubles ranking of No. 219, achieved on 9 May 2022.[2] He won oneATP Tour singles title, at the2023 Swiss Open Gstaad.

As a junior, he reached a career-high ranking of No. 8 on 9 December 2013.

Professional career

2015–2019: ATP debut in doubles, first Challenger title

Cachin made his ATP main-draw debut as a wildcard in thedoubles competition of the2015 Argentina Open, partneringFacundo Argüello. They saved a match point and defeated the second-seeded pair ofMáximo González andHoracio Zeballos before losing toCarlos Berlocq andDiego Schwartzman in the second round.

Cachin entered his first Grand Slam tournament at the2015 Wimbledon Championships, but was eliminated byJimmy Wang 4–6, 6–3, 7–5 in the first round of thequalifying competition.

In September 2015, ranked No. 248, Cachin won his maidenChallenger title at theCopa Sevilla, defeating top seed and world No. 54Pablo Carreño Busta in the final.

By 2019, Cachin had increased his ranking enough to receive entry into Grand Slam qualifying competitions. Ranked No. 232, he participated inRoland Garros, where he was defeated by wildcardElliot Benchetrit in the first round.

Cachin then participated in the qualifying competition atWimbledon, losing in the first round toTallon Griekspoor.

At theUS Open qualifying competition, he lost toBlaž Kavčič in the first round.

2020–2021: Second Challenger title, top 250 debut

In 2020, Cachin won the World Tennis Tour title inPaguera, Spain, beating Matthieu Perchicot in the final.

In 2021, Cachin won the2021 Open de Oeiras II, beatingNuno Borges in the final for his second Challenger title.

He reached the top 250 at world No. 239 on 29 November 2021.[2]

2022: Major debut & first win, Four Challengers, US Open third round & top 60

In January, Cachin reached the second round of qualifying at theAustralian Open, defeating ninth seedFrancisco Cerundolo before losing toMarco Trungelliti.

In March, Cachin recorded a win over former World No. 3 and2020 US Open champion, World No. 50Dominic Thiem at theAndalucía Challenger in Marbella en route to the final where he lost toJaume Munar.[3]

Cachin qualified for the2022 French Open as lucky loser to make his Grand Slam singles main-draw debut. He defeated fellow qualifierNorbert Gombos in the first round before losing toHugo Gaston in the second round. As a result, he made his top 150 debut in the singles rankings on 6 June 2022.[2]He made his top 100 debut after winning his fifth Challenger title inTodi at World No. 98 on 11 July 2022. He moved to No. 66 on 22 August 2022, after his sixth Challenger title in theDominican Republic.[2][3][4]

At theUS Open, Cachin received direct entry in to the main draw and defeatedAljaž Bedene in five sets in a fifth set with a super 10-point tiebreak, becoming the first player to win a match at the US Open under the newtiebreak rule. He then defeated wildcardBrandon Holt again in five sets with a super tiebreak after being two sets down to move onto the third round for the first time at a Major.[5][3] As a result, he entered the top 60 in the singles rankings on 12 September 2022.[2]In October, he facedAndy Murray in the round of 16 of theGijón Open losing in the third set tiebreak.[6]At the ATP 500Erste Bank Open in Vienna, he entered the main draw as lucky loser.

Cachin finished the year ranked No. 54.[2]

2023: First ATP title, Masters debut, top 50

Cachin made hisMasters debut atIndian Wells defeatingNikoloz Basilashvili in his opening match,[7] then losing to 12th seedAlexander Zverev in the second round.[8]

At theMadrid Open, he reached the fourth round of a Masters tournament for the first time with wins over wildcard entrantAbdullah Shelbayh,[9] 24th seedFrancisco Cerúndolo[10] and ninth seedFrances Tiafoe,[11][12] before losing to lucky loser and eventual runner-upJan-Lennard Struff.[13]

In July, Cachin won his maiden ATP title inGstaad, defeatingTaro Daniel,[14] top seedRoberto Bautista Agut,[15]Jaume Munar[16] and qualifierHamad Medjedovic[17] to reach the final, where he overcameAlbert Ramos Viñolas in three sets.[18][19] As a result he moved up 41 places in the ATP rankings to a new career-high of world No. 49 on 24 July 2023.[20]

Seeded third, he received a bye and then defeated Albert Ramos Viñolas to reach the quarterfinals at theGenerali Open,[21] where he lost to fifth seedLaslo Djere.[22]

2024–2025: Nadal match, retirement

Cachin endured a nine-month 15-match losing run, before defeatingSebastian Ofner at theMadrid Open in April 2024.[23] He followed this with another win over 20th seedFrances Tiafoe to make it into the third round,[24] at which point he lost toRafael Nadal in three sets.[25]

Having last played in the qualifying competition at a Challenger tournament inLyon, France, in June 2025, Cachin announced his retirement from professional tennis on 3 November 2025.[26][27][11]
