Pedasus (Ancient Greek: Πήδασος) has been identified with several personal and place names inGreek history andmythology.

InHomer'sIliad, Pedasus was the name of aTrojan warrior, and the son of thenaiadAbarbarea and humanBucolion. His twin brother wasAesepus; both were slain byEuryalus, the son ofMecisteus, during theTrojan War.[1]

InHomer'sIliad, Pedasus was also the name of a swift horse taken as booty byAchilles when he killedEetion.[2] This horse was killed by a spear during a duel betweenPatroclus andSarpedon.[3]

In Ovid’sMetamorphoses, Pedasus is named as one of Phineus’s rioters at the wedding of Perseus and Andromeda. During the battle, he kills the poet Lampetides as he tries to stay out of the battle, and for that, the warrior Lycormas breaks his spine with a beam.

Pedasus (Caria): InCaria, according toHerodotus, theBattle of Pedasus (Summer of 496 BCE) was a night ambush where the Carians annihilated a Persian army.[4] This engagement occurred during theIonian Revolt (499-494 BCE).

Pedasus (Messenia): InPeloponnese,Methone has been identified with the vine-covered Pedasus, one of the seven cities offered byAgamemnon toAchilles to quell his rage and to persuade him to return to theSiege of Troy.[5]

Pedasus (Mysia): In theTroad, there was another Pedasus on theSatnioeis river,[6] said to be inhabited by a tribe called theLeleges.[7] During theTrojan War, this Pedasus was ruled over by a certain king namedAltes.[8] This city was sacked byAchilles.[9]
