Pe htaw bhut htamin (Burmese:ထောပတ်ထမင်း;IPA:[tʰɔ́baʔtʰəmɪ́ɴ], also known asbutter rice orbutter and lentil rice) is a festiverice dish inBurmese cuisine, typically associated with celebratory occasions likewedding receptions or almsgiving feasts.[1] The rice dish is typically paired with a traditionalBurmese chicken or mutton curry.

Buttered rice uses long-grainedpaw hsan hmwe orbasmati rice, and in its most basic form, is cooked withbutter,lentils, andbay leaves.Cashew nuts andraisins may be added, and the dish can be spiced withcinnamon sticks,cardamom pods orcloves, and garnished with fried golden onions to serve.[2][3]
