Peñarol is aUruguayan professionalrugby union team based inMontevideo. The team was founded in 2019 to compete inSúper Liga Americana de Rugby and is the rugby section of thePeñarolsports club. With its participation, Peñarol became the first professional rugby club in Uruguay.[1]
Peñarol debuted officially in March 2020, v Chilean teamSelknam, which also takes part of Súper Liga Americana.[2] TheCarbonero was defeated 15–13.[3]
Their home stadium isEstadio Charrúa in Montevideo and holds up to 14,000 people.
