Pax Khazarica (Latin for "Khazar Peace") is ahistoriographical term, modeled after the original phrasePax Romana, applied to the period (roughly 700–950 AD) during which theKhazar Khaganate dominated thePontic steppe and theCaucasus Mountains.[1] During this period, Khazar dominion over vitaltrans-Eurasian trade routes facilitated travel and trade betweenEurope andAsia by such groups as theRadhanites and the earlyRus.The originator of the term is unknown but it was in use by scholars as early as the nineteenth century.
