Pawel Pogorzelski (born 1979) is aPolish-Canadian[1] cinematographer, known for his work with directorAri Aster.
Pogorzelski was born in 1979 inWłocławek,Poland but moved toMontreal with his family when he was 2.[2] He studied atConcordia University, receiving an undergraduate degree in media communication.[3][4] He moved toLos Angeles in 2008,[2] where he studied at theAmerican Film Institute Conservatory.[4]
Pogorzelski garnered critical acclaim for his work on the 2018 psychological horror filmHereditary, directed byAri Aster.[5] They would work together again on the 2019 filmMidsommar, for which he received a nomination for theIndependent Spirit Award for Best Cinematography at the35th Independent Spirit Awards.[6] In 2021, he was the director of photography for the action filmNobody[7] and theHulu horror filmFalse Positive.[8] In 2023, he served as cinematographer for theDC Comics filmBlue Beetle[9] and once again worked with Ari Aster on his surrealist tragicomedy horror filmBeau Is Afraid.[10]
