Paulo Roberto Bacinello (born 29 September 1959), commonly known asPaulinho Cascavel, is a Brazilian retiredfootballer who played as astriker.
He spent most of his professional career in Portugal, primarily withVitória de Guimarães andSporting CP.[1]
Born inCascavel,Paraná, Cascavel (whosenickname stemmed from his birthplace) started his career with local amateursCascavel Esporte Clube, then played forCriciúma Esporte Clube,Joinville Esporte Clube andFluminense FC. He made five appearances in the 1983 edition of theCampeonato Brasileiro Série B with Criciúma,[2] and was top scorer of the following year'sCampeonato Catarinense with 27 goals while with Joinville.[3]
Cascavel moved to Portugal in December 1984, signing withPrimeira Liga clubFC Porto, but only played one game there. Inthe following season he joinedGuimarães'Vitória SC, and scored 22 times in hissecond year – top scorer in the competition – as theMinho side finished in third place andqualified for theUEFA Cup.[4]
Cascavel was acquired bySporting CP for1987–88 and scored 24 goals during that campaign, but theLisbon-based team finished fourth.[4] He added six in as many matches in theirquarter-final run in theUEFA Cup Winners' Cup.[5]
Cascavel's numbers reduced significantly the following years, and he retired in June 1991 while still in Portugal withGil Vicente FC.[4]
Cascavel's son,Guilherme, also nicknamed Cascavel, was also a footballer and a striker. Born in Portugal, he too played mostly in the country, mainly in itsSegunda Liga.[1]
