Pauline Tully (formerlyPauline Tully-McAuley; born 1970/1971)[1] is an IrishSinn Féin politician who has been asenator for theCultural and Educational Panel since January 2025.[2] She was previously aTeachta Dála (TD) for theCavan–Monaghan constituency from2020 to2024.[3] She was a member ofCavan County Council for theBallyjamesdufflocal electoral area fromthe 1999 election until 2012.[4]

Early and personal life

Tully grew up on a farm inKilnaleck,County Cavan, where she still lives.[5][6] She teaches history at Breifne College.[7]

In 2003 Tully marriedIRA memberPearse McAuley; at the time he was imprisoned for thekilling of Jerry McCabe, and granted day release for the wedding.[8] Her name was Pauline Tully-McAuley on the2004 and2009 election ballot papers.[9] Her husband was released from prison in August 2009, and she resigned as councillor in 2012 due to the demands of her teaching job and childcare.[9] She and McAuley separated in February 2014 and on Christmas Eve 2014 he stabbed her 13 times in front of their two children, for which he was imprisoned until June 2022.[10]

She lost her seat at the2024 general election.[11] She was elected as aSenator for theCultural and Educational Panel in January 2025.[12][13]
