Paul holds a long list of theatre credits across the UK and on Broadway. Thornley played Dodge in the original cast of the musicalLondon Road at theNational Theatre, a role which he later reprised in thefilm version in 2015.[1] In 2025 he performed in the National Theatre revival ofLondon Road,[2] once more reprising his role of Dodge.
Prior to this, Thornley performed in the National Theatre's award-winning production ofDear England[3] in 2023. Further credits includeThe Habits atHampstead Theatre,A Chorus of Disapproval at theHarold Pinter Theatre,The Three Musketeers at theRose Theatre, Kingston andIt's a Wonderful Life at theWolsey Theatre.[4] In 2025, Paul will perform in theOld Vic production ofMary Page Marlowe.
In 2016 he playedRon Weasley in the original London cast ofHarry Potter and the Cursed Child at thePalace Theatre in theWest End.[5] He was nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Play at the 2017Whatsonstage.com Awards.[6] Thornley reprised his role as Weasley on Broadway at theLyric Theatre in 2018[7] and again in 2020.[5]
Thornley's extensive screen credits include Netflix'sHostage,Maigret,Call the Midwife, Apple TV'sCriminal Record andThe Crown. He can also be seen in feature filmThe Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry,The Mercy, andThe Brothers Grimsby among many others.
For video games, Thornley provided the voice for Olgierd von Everec in theHearts of Stone expansion forThe Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in 2015. In 2018 he voiced a major protagonist named Addam Origo inXenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna – The Golden Country.
