Paul Hoynes

Paul Hoynes is an American sportswriter, and is the longtimebeat reporter on theCleveland Guardians forThe Plain Dealer.

Hoynes grew up inCleveland Heights, Ohio.[1] He graduated fromCathedral Latin High School[2] andMarquette University, receiving abachelor's degree in journalism.[1]

Hoynes joined thePainesville Telegraph as a high school sports reporter in 1973. He then covered theCleveland Browns of theNational Football League for theCleveland Press and then joined theThe News-Herald covering the Cleveland Indians ofMajor League Baseball in 1983.[2] The following year, Hoynes joinedThe Plain Dealer as their Indians beat writer.[1] In 2025, Hoynes won theBBWAA Career Excellence Award.[3]

Hoynes and his wife, Jackie, have two sons.[2] His grandfather,Bill Cook, is a member of theHockey Hall of Fame.[4]
