Patrick Somerville (born April 14, 1979)[1] is an American novelist and television writer living inChicago,Illinois, United States.

Career

Novels

Somerville graduated fromCornell University in 2005.[2] He published hisdebut novel,The Cradle, in 2009[3] and his second novelThis Bright River in 2012.[4]

Television

In 2013, Somerville joined the writing staff ofThe Bridge,[5] where he wrote two episodes of the series.[6][7] From 2015 to 2017, he was a writer on theHBO seriesThe Leftovers.[8] In October 2016, it was announced that Somerville would write theNetflix seriesManiac.[9] In December 2017, he signed a deal to develop new TV and digital projects exclusively forParamount Television (now Paramount Television Studios).[10] In October 2019, it was announced that he would be the writer andshowrunner for a 10 episodeHBO Max miniseriesStation Eleven.[11] He was also the showrunner for the first season of the seriesMade for Love.[12]

In April 2022, it was announced that Somerville andEmily St. John Mandel would adaptThe Glass Hotel andSea of Tranquility as twoStation Eleven followup series forHBO Max.[13]

Film

Somerville is set to write and produce an original script,Ursa Major, directed by Jonathan and Josh Baker forXYZ Films.Mary Elizabeth Winstead andXochitl Gomez are attached to star in the film.[14]
