Pathros (Hebrew:פַּתְרוֹס;Paṯrōs;Ancient Greek:Φαθωρῆς,Phathōrēs;KoineAncient Greek:Παθούρης,Pathourēs) refers toUpper Egypt, primarily theThebaid where it extended fromElephantine fort to modernAsyut north ofThebes.[1]Gardiner argues it extended to the north no further thanAbydos.[2] It is mentioned in theHebrew Bible inJeremiah44:1 and 15;Isaiah11:11; andEzekiel29:14,30:14. It is the homeland of the "Pathrusim".

The name is a loan fromEgyptianpꜣ tꜣ-rsy "the southern land" (e.g.,pBritish Museum EA 10375, line 16; cf. SahidicCopticⲡⲁⲧⲟⲩⲣⲏⲥ and Bohairic Copticⲡⲁⲑⲟⲩⲣⲏⲥ.[3][4])
