Pastel de Camiguín, (lit.'Camiguin cake') or simplypastel, is aFilipino soft bun withyema (custard) filling originating from theprovince ofCamiguin. The name is derived fromSpanishpastel ("cake").Pastel is anheirloom recipe originally conceived by Eleanor Popera Jose and the members of her family inCamiguin.[1][2] She started to commercially sell it on January 8, 1990 using the money left over from her husband'sChristmas bonus. The name of the business was Vjandep Pastel meaning Virgilio Jose and Eleanor Popera (VJ and EP).[3] It is primarily produced at the time of family's special occasions and gatherings.

In addition to the originalyema filling,pastel also feature other fillings, includingube,mocha,macapuno, cheese, chocolate,durian,jackfruit, andmango among others.Pastel is regarded as apasalubong (regional specialty gifts) of Camiguin Island and nearbyCagayan de Oro.[4][5][6][7]
