Begum Parween Sultanapronounced[beɡɔmpaɹwinsultana] (born 24 May 1950)[2] is an IndianHindustani classical singer of thePatiala Gharana.[3] She was awarded thePadma Shri in 1976 and thePadma Bhushan in 2014 by theGovernment of India and theSangeet Natak Akademi Award by theSangeet Natak Akademi in 1998.

Career

Begum Parween Sultana received training from AcharyaChinmoy Lahiri[4], among others. Begum Parween Sultana started her professional career withAbdul Majid's Assamese Film Morom Trishna. She has sung for Bollywood movies such asGadar,Kudrat,Do Boond Pani, andPakeezah, and several other Assamese films. Recently, she sang the theme song ofVikram Bhatt's1920.[5] She also sangHumein Tumse Pyaar Kitna for the filmKudrat in 1981.

She has recorded forHis Master's Voice,Polydor, Music India, Bharat Records, Auvidis, Magnasound, Sonodisc, and Amigo.

Begum Parween Sultana is often accompanied byPandit Shrinivas Acharya on the harmonium[6]. Begum Parween Sultana's vocal range is nearly 4 and a half octaves.[7]

Personal life

She is married toUstad Dilshad Khan from whom she also took lessons of music.[8] They have one daughter named Shadab Sultana Khan.[9][10]
