Paramerion

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sword used in Byzantine Empire
AByzantine fresco ofSaint Mercurius armed with a paramerion, dated 1295, fromOhrid,North Macedonia

Theparamerion (Medieval Greek: Παραμήριον) was asaber-like curvedsword. The nameparamerion means 'by the thigh', this may reflect that it was worn suspended by slings from a waist-belt, rather than the usualbaldric employed by Byzantines for straight double-edged swords.[1]
