
TheParaíba do Norte River, mostly known asParaíba River, is the most important watercourse of the state ofParaíba in northeasternBrazil.[1][2] The river originates in theBorborema Plateau, and flows northeast to empty into theAtlantic Ocean, north ofJoão Pessoa, the state capital.[1] Its constantly menacedestuary has a handful of little islands—among themRestinga and Stuart—and is the habitat of a range of animal species, as well as a number ofecosystems such asmangroves, theAtlantic Forest and saltmarshes.[1]
