Pantellerite is a type ofvolcanic rock, specifically aperalkalinerhyolite. It has a higheriron and loweraluminium composition thancomendite.[1] It is named afterPantelleria, a volcanic island in theStrait of Sicily and thetype location for this rock. On Pantelleria the rock is usually found as avitrophyre containingphenocrysts ofanorthoclase orsanidine.Quartz is found only in the most strongly peralkaline rocks.Maficminerals may includeaegirine,fayalite,aenigmatite,ilmenite, andsodicamphibole (oftenarfvedsonite or ferrorichterite).[2]
