Pano Aqil Cantonment is a major military base of thePakistan Army located inPano Akil,Sukkur District, in the province ofSindh,Pakistan. It lies approximately 40 kilometers northeast ofSukkur city and serves as a strategic location for military operations in the region.

History and significance

The cantonment is home to the 16th Infantry Division, which operates under the command of theV Corps headquartered inKarachi. Its strategic placement has made it a key installation in ensuring regional security and supporting military logistics and training exercises in upper Sindh and adjacent areas.

Geography and administration

Pano Aqil Cantonment is distinct from the civilian population ofPano Aqil town, and falls under the jurisdiction of the Cantonment Board Pano Aqil,[1] which functions under theMilitary Lands and Cantonments Department of theMinistry of Defence. The cantonment is well-planned, featuring military barracks, residential quarters, educational institutions, healthcare facilities, and recreational areas.

Demographics

According to the2017 Pakistan census, the population of Pano Aqil Cantonment was 25,759. The population comprises primarily military personnel and their families, along with civilian staff and support services operating within the area.
