Pamela Reed is an American actress. She is known for playingArnold Schwarzenegger's police partner Phoebe O'Hara in the 1990 filmKindergarten Cop and portraying thematriarch Gail Green inJericho. She appeared asMarlene Griggs-Knope on theNBCsitcomParks and Recreation, as well as the exasperated wife Alison Langley inBean.

Reed received her B.F.A. at theUniversity of Washington.[1][2]

Career

Reed earned aDrama Desk Award for theoff-Broadway playGetting Out and anObie Award for "sustaining excellence in performance in theater". She was a regular in the cast of the 1977CBS dramaThe Andros Targets. She had minor film and television work in the 1980s. She won aCableAce Award for Best Actress for the HBO seriesTanner '88 (1988). She also co-starred with Daryl Hannah in the filmThe Clan of the Cave Bear (1985).[3]

Her notable film roles includeThe Long Riders (1980),The Right Stuff (1983),The Best of Times (1986),Kindergarten Cop (1990),Junior (1994),Deadly Whispers (1995),Bean (1997), andProof of Life (2001).

Reed played Janice Pasetti in the quirky NBC sitcomGrand,[4] and then played a judge and single mother in the short-lived NBC sitcomThe Home Court.[4] She has provided the voice for the characterRuth Powers in 4 episodes of the animated TV seriesThe Simpsons and guest-voiced in an episode of the 1994–1995 animated seriesThe Critic. She played a main role inJericho[4] and portrayed the mother of main characterLeslie Knope (Amy Poehler) onParks and Recreation.[5][4]

In 2005 Reed portrayedexecutive producerEsther Shapiro inDynasty: The Making of a Guilty Pleasure, a fictionalized television movie based on the creation andbehind the scenes production of the 1980s prime timesoap operaDynasty.[6][7][4]

Reed has also worked for Storyline Online, readingStellaluna.

Personal life

Reed metSandy Smolan when he directed her inRachel River. They married in 1988 and have two adopted children, Reed and Lily.[8]
