HD 3322 is abinary star[8] system in the northernconstellation ofAndromeda. With anapparent visual magnitude of 6.51,[3] it lies below the nominal brightness limit for visibility with the normal naked eye, but it is still possible to see the star with excellent vision under ideal seeing conditions. An annualparallax shift of4.59±0.65 mas[2] provides a distance estimate of roughly 700 light years.

This is a single-linedspectroscopic binary star system with anorbital period of around 400 days and aneccentricity of 0.57.[8] The visible component has astellar classification ofB8.5 IIIp HgMn,[5] matching achemically peculiarB-typegiantmercury-manganese star.[12] Catalano and Leone (1991) found it to be aα2 CVn variable with a period of 4.6904 days,[1] and thus it received thevariable star designation PY And.[6] It has an estimated 3.7[4] times themass of the Sun and about 4.8[9] times theSun's radius. It is radiating around 246[4] times theSun's luminosity from itsphotosphere at aneffective temperature of 12,882 K.[4]
