Protein-coding gene in the species Homo sapiens
Protein kinase C beta type is anenzyme that in humans is encoded by thePRKCB gene .[ 5]
Protein kinase C (PKC) is a family ofserine - andthreonine -specificprotein kinases that can be activated bycalcium andsecond messenger diacylglycerol . PKC family membersphosphorylate a wide variety of protein targets and are known to be involved in diversecellular signaling pathways. PKC family members also serve as major receptors forphorbol esters , a class oftumor promoters . Each member of the PKC family has a specificexpression profile and is believed to play a distinct role incells . The protein encoded by this gene is one of the PKC family members. This protein kinase has been reported to be involved in many different cellular functions, such asB cell activation, apoptosis induction, endothelial cell proliferation , andintestinal sugar absorption. Studies inmice also suggest that this kinase may also regulate neuronal functions and correlate fear-induced conflict behavior after stress.Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinctisoforms have been reported.[ 6] This gene could be associated withautism .[ 7] [ 8]
PRKCB1 has been shown tointeract withRIPK4 ,[ 9] beta adrenergic receptor kinase ,[ 10] PDLIM5 [ 11] andGNB2L1 .[ 12]
