Oxetacaine (INN, also known asoxethazaine) is a potentlocal anesthetic. It is administered orally (usually in combination with anantacid) for the relief of pain associated withpeptic ulcer disease oresophagitis. It is also used topically in the management ofhemorrhoid pain. Oral oxetacaine preparations are available in several countries, includingIndia,South Africa,Japan,Taiwan andBrazil, but not the United States. Unlike most local anesthetics, oxetacaine does not break down under stronglyacidic conditions.[1]

It is known to producemephentermine andphentermine asmetabolites.[2][3]
