This species was earlier described by Lankester and namedMonocystis thalassemae.
There is one species recognised in this genus.
This species infects the eggs of theechiuroid worm (Thalassema neptuni). This occurs while the eggs are within the genital pouches (nephridial sacs).
Schizogony andsporogony both occur within the eggs.
The mature sexual parasites are vermiform and immobile. The males are smaller than the females. Themicrogametocyte, when it becomes spherical, gives rise to numerous, elongatemicrogametes. These are similar to those ofAggregata.
Theoocysts have manysporocysts, each with up to 12sporozoites.
The number ofchromosomes appears to be seven.
