Osteobrama is a genus ofcyprinidfish found in southernAsia consisting of eight species. The name is derived from theGreek wordosteon, meaning "bone", and theOld French wordbreme, a type of freshwater fish.
These are the species in the genus:[2]
Fishbase formerly regardedO. bhimensis as asynonym ofO. vigorsii, and also treats the former subspecies ofO. cotio as distinct species:O. cunma andO. peninsularis,[3][4] which is not supported by ITIS[5] orWoRMS.[1]
