Orochelidon is agenus of birds in theswallow familyHirundinidae. These species are resident in theAndes Mountains of South America.
The genusOrochelidon was introduced in 1903 by the America ornithologistRobert Ridgway with thebrown-bellied swallow as thetype species.[1][2] The name combines theAncient Greekoros meaning "mountain" andkhelidōn meaning "swallow".[3] The genus was formerly considered as ajunior synonym of the genusNotiochelidon but was resurrected for a clade of Neotropical swallows based on amolecular phylogenetic study published in 2005.[4][5]
