Ormeau Hills is a residentiallocality in theCity of Gold Coast,Queensland, Australia.[2] In the2021 census, Ormeau Hills had a population of 4,521 people.[1]

Geography

A small section of the eastern boundary of Ormeau Hills follows thePacific Motorway.[3]

The eastern part of the locality is a suburban development on lower flatter land (10 to 30 metres (33 to 98 ft) above sea level). The centre of the locality is more hilly, up to 130 metres (430 ft), and the land use isrural residential. The west of the locality is more mountainous, rising to 250 metres (820 ft), and is undeveloped.[3]

Davis Hill is located in the west of the suburb on the border with Luscombe. It reaches a height of 298m, and has a radio mast at the summit.

History

The name of the locality comes from the neighbouring locality ofOrmeau, which, in turn, takes its name from Ormeau House the estate of MajorAlexander Jenyns Boyd, a sugar planter of the 1860s. His first wife, Isabella (née Dawson) was born atOrmeau Road,Belfast,Ulster, Ireland. The wordormeau is French, meaningyoung elm.[4]

In the2016 census, Ormeau Hills had a population of 3,148 people.[6]

In the2021 census, Ormeau Hills had a population of 4,521 people.[1]

There are no schools in Ormeau Hills. The nearest government primary school isOrmeau State School in neighbouringPimpama to the east. The nearest government secondary school isOrmeau Woods State High School in neighbouringOrmeau to the north-east.[3]
