Orgueil (French pronunciation:[ɔʁɡœj]ⓘ;Occitan:Orgulh) is acommune in theTarn-et-Garonnedepartment in theOccitanieregion in southern France.
Orgueil has existed for more than 1000 years. It was first mentioned in the 9th century, when Orgueil was part ofSaint-Sernin Abbaye inToulouse.
On 14 May 1864 a rarecarbonaceous chondritemeteorite landed there, now known as theOrgueil meteorite. For research purposes, it was split up into several pieces which can now be seen in museums inEurope and the United States. The Museum d'Histoire Naturelle ofMontauban inTarn-et-Garonne, France has a large piece of the meteorite that weighs eleven kilograms.
Orgueil is also awine-producing region: the red grapele frontonnais is cultivated there.
