Orchies is the biggest town of thePévèle. It is especially known for itsMusée de la chicorée, the museum ofchicory.

Orchies istwinned withKelso inScotland.

The French Romantic composerClément Broutin (1851–1889) was born in Orchies. The politicianValérie Létard (1962-) was born in Orchies.
