Orašac (Serbian Cyrillic:Орашац) is a village in themunicipality ofAranđelovac in CentralSerbia. According to the 2002 census, the village has a population of 1462 people.[1] It is best known as the starting point of theFirst Serbian Uprising in 1804, as the site of theOrašac Assembly.
American anthropologistsJoel andBarbara Halpern wrote an extensive body of papers and books about Orašac. The books includeA Serbian Village (1958)[2] andA Serbian Village in Historical Perspective (1986).[3]
