Olga Alekseyevna Govortsova (Belarusian:Вольга Аляксееўна Гаварцова (Volha Alyakseyeuna Havartsova);Ольга Алексеевна Говорцова; born 23 August 1988) is a Belarusian inactive professionaltennis player. On 23 June 2008, she achieved a career-high singles ranking of world No. 35. On 29 August 2011, she peaked at No. 24 in the doubles rankings.

Tennis career

She reached her firstWTA Tour final at the2008 Memphis Championships but lost in straight sets toLindsay Davenport.

Govortsova has been sponsored by Wilson[1] and Chinese clothing company Peak.[2] She is represented by French-based sports agency Lagardère Unlimited.[3]

2009

She began her season at theBrisbane International, where she defeated eighth seedFrancesca Schiavone en route to the quarterfinals. However, she fell against world No. 41,Sara Errani.At theAustralian Open, she received main-draw entry but lost in straight sets against 20th seedAmélie Mauresmo in the first round.

She then played inIndian Wells, a Premier-Mandatory event where she defeated BritishAnne Keothavong in the first round before falling toPeng Shuai.In Miami, at the second Premier-Mandatory event, she lost in the first round to Belarusian qualifierAnastasiya Yakimova.

In October, she reached the final of theKremlin Cup, losing toFrancesca Schiavone.

2010

Govortsova started the new year at theBrisbane International where she lost in the first round toBarbora Záhlavová-Strýcová. At theSydney International she lost in the first qualifying round toChanelle Scheepers.

At theAustralian Open, she lost in the first round toAngelique Kerber.

AtAmelia Island, she beat second seedAlona Bondarenko in the first round, and in the second roundAnna Tatishvili, and in the quarterfinalsVarvara Lepchenko, and in the semifinals third seedDominika Cibulková, before losing her third WTA Tour singles final toCaroline Wozniacki.

2015

At theInternationaux de Strasbourg, Govortsova retired in the first round when she played againstMirjana Lučić-Baroni.[4] She failed to qualify for theFrench Open, losing in three sets toAlexa Glatch.

AtWimbledon, Govortsova advanced to the fourth round of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time, by defeating opponents such asAlizé Cornet (who had beatenSerena Williamsthe previous year) andMagdaléna Rybáriková in the early rounds. She eventually lost toMadison Keys.[5]

At theRogers Cup, Govortsova qualified for the main draw and defeatedIrina-Camelia Begu in her opening match, before losing to fifth seedAna Ivanovic in straight sets.[6]

Govortsova has played three seasons withWorld TeamTennis, making her debut in 2013 with theSacramento Capitals. She has since played for theSpringfield Lasers in 2014 and 2019 was announced to be joining the Lasers again during the 2020 WTT season set to begin 12 July.[8]

Dubai was classified as a Premier 5 event from 2009 to 2011 before being succeeded by Doha for the 2012–2014 period. In 2015, Dubai regained its Premier 5 status while Doha was demoted to Premier status. The Premier 5 tournaments were reclassified asWTA 1000 tournaments in 2021.
