Olaf Manthey (born 21 April 1955 inBonn) is a German former race car driver, and former owner of Porsche teamManthey Racing.
Manthey's career as a driver began in 1974. In the 1980s, he won two races of theDeutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft.[1] Retiring as DTM racer after 1993, since 1994 he worked forPersson Motorsport in Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft, which ran Mercedes cars.
After the DTM faltered in late 1996, he set up his own business near theNürburgring, focusing on Porsche road cars and his team Manthey Racing in the GermanPorsche Carrera Cup, which he as driver had won in 1990, and in thePorsche Supercup. He continued racing on the long Nürburgring, mostly in the 1990s with DTM-basedMercedes 190, later withPorsche 911 GT3. Since 1999, his team receives a various degree of factory support from Porsche, or acts as factory team, or with factory-paid drivers.
In 2012, Manthey decided to leave theVLN series and enter theInternational GT Open instead. However, the team still ran a car at the 24 Hours of Nurburgring that year.
Manthey has taken 30 overall victories at theNürburgring Endurance Series (formerlyVLN) in his career, more than any other driver.[2]
