United States National Heritage Area in Pennsylvania
Oil Region National Heritage Area is a federally designatedNational Heritage Area in the northwestern portion of the U.S. state ofPennsylvania . The national heritage area commemorates and promotes the region surroundingEdwin Drake 'soil well of 1859 nearTitusville , which gave rise to the modern oil industry.[ 1]
The national heritage area includes all ofVenango County and a portion ofCrawford County , including Titusville andOil Creek Township ,[ 1] in and around theOil Creek valley.[ 2]
The Oil Region National Heritage Area was established by Public Law 108-447 in 2004. It is administered by the Oil Region Alliance.[ 3]
TheDrake Well Museum [ 4] [ 5] andOil Creek State Park are located in this region
