Ohr Somayach inSouth Africa is an affiliate ofOhr Somayach, Jerusalem, a network ofHarediyeshivas andSynagogues. Like its parent institution, it focuses on educatingbaal teshuvas ("returnees" toOrthodox Judaism). It has branches inJohannesburg andCape Town.

Johannesburg's main campus, inGlenhazel, was founded by Dayan Boruch Rapoport,[1][2] Rabbi Shmuel Moffson and Rabbi Larry Shain.[3]it includes a full-timeYeshiva,headed by Rabbi Shimon Wolpe. ItsBet Midrash was established in 1990, and itsKollel,Toras Chaim, in 1996 which is currently headed by Rabbi Yechezkil Auerbach and Rabbi Yoel Smith.[4] The campus also houses theMa'ayan Binaseminary.

In other locations,[5] Ohr Somayach has a minyan in nearbySavoy Estate, while theSandton branch (est 1991) under Rabbi Ze’ev Kraines, is a “Shtiebel-like” shul and Bet Midrash, and also houses anursery school. The Shaarei Torah Primary School is based on the main campus.Ohr Somayach Cape Town is a community located in the heart ofSea Point."Ohrsom" is the young adults' division with its ownShul in Glenhazel, as well as asatellite campus in Sandton. The Sunny Road Shul is an affiliated community, comprising mainly young families.

The associatedYeshiva South Africa (YSA),headed by Rabbi Michael Olitzki, is based in its ownBet Midrash, and is a fully functioning Yeshiva — catering tobochurim — with threelearning sessions a day. Rabbi Shlomo Webber is theMashgiach.
