Son of Nauplius in Greek mythology

InGreek andRoman mythology,Oeax (Ancient Greek:Οἴαξ,romanizedOíax,lit.'handle of rudder, tiller') was aEuboean prince as the son of KingNauplius.[1]

Family

[edit]

Oeax's mother has been variously named asClymene,[2]Hesione[3] orPhilyra.[4] He was also the brother ofNausimedon andPalamedes, a Greek warrior at theTrojan War.

Mythology

[edit]

Because Oeax was angry at theGreeks for killing Palamedes atTroy, he falsely toldClytemnestra aboutAgamemnon bringing backCassandra, a Trojan concubine, which led to Clytemnestra plotting to kill Agamemnon.[5] Later, Oeax tried to banishOrestes after the latter murdered his mother Clytemnestra.[6] Ultimately, Oeax and his brother Nausimedon were killed byPylades after helpingAegisthus in his fight with Orestes.[7]
