Son of Nauplius in Greek mythology
InGreek andRoman mythology ,Oeax (Ancient Greek :Οἴαξ ,romanized : Oíax ,lit. 'handle of rudder, tiller') was aEuboean prince as the son of KingNauplius .[ 1]
Oeax's mother has been variously named asClymene ,[ 2] Hesione [ 3] orPhilyra .[ 4] He was also the brother ofNausimedon andPalamedes , a Greek warrior at theTrojan War .
Because Oeax was angry at theGreeks for killing Palamedes atTroy , he falsely toldClytemnestra aboutAgamemnon bringing backCassandra , a Trojan concubine, which led to Clytemnestra plotting to kill Agamemnon.[ 5] Later, Oeax tried to banishOrestes after the latter murdered his mother Clytemnestra.[ 6] Ultimately, Oeax and his brother Nausimedon were killed byPylades after helpingAegisthus in his fight with Orestes.[ 7]
