Nuclear Polynesian refers to those languages comprising theSamoic and theEastern Polynesian branches of thePolynesian group ofAustronesian languages.
The Eastern Polynesian group comprises two major subgroups:Rapa Nui, spoken onEaster Island, andCentral-Eastern, which is itself composed ofRapan, and theMarquesic andTahitic languages.
Nuclear Polynesian is differentiated, among Polynesian languages, by its distinguishing characteristics from theTongic languages spoken in most ofTonga and inNiue.
