Northwest Italy (Italian:Italia nord-occidentale or justNord-ovest) is one of the five official statistical regions ofItaly used by theNational Institute of Statistics (ISTAT), afirst level NUTS region and aEuropean Parliament constituency. Northwest encompasses four of thecountry's 20 regions:

It borders to the west withFrance via theWestern Alps, to the north withSwitzerland via theCentral Alps, to the east with the regions ofTrentino-Alto Adige,Veneto andEmilia-Romagna belonging toNortheast Italy and to the south with theLigurian Sea and the extreme offshoot ofTuscany inCentral Italy. Northwest Italy includes a large part of thePo Valley and is crossed by thePo river, the longest inItaly.

Economy

Thegross domestic product (GDP) of the region was 580.3 billion euro in 2018, accounting for 32.9% of Italy's economic output. GDP per capita adjusted for purchasing power was 35,900 euro or 119% of the EU27 average in the same year.[6]
