In 1991 Northgate Shopping Centre opened its doors after phase 1 of its development was completed. At that stage, the mall was small, consisting only of Pick n Pay and a couple of other stores. At that time, the mall was 3 100 sqm. Since then the mall has continued to grow, and now offers an array of stores, and of course, one of Joburg's most popular entertainment offerings including Northgate Ice Rink and Century Cinemax Northgate.
